How to show up for your best writing self.
Being a part of something bigger, a collective of like-hearted people who understand the writerly struggle, is so important. They understand the investment required – the time, the energy, the money, the mental drain – to be on this publishing journey.
Life is easier when one finds community, just as art is more fulfilling when shared with others. The act of sharing your writing with anyone can be scary, inviting the very judgment and rejection you fear.
Surrounding yourself with people who will support you and your publishing dream are crucial!
A huge part of having a support crew is is having people who will hold you accountable to do the things you say you will do.
Showing up to write can be a daily struggle - lets not forget how hard writing a book is.
When I started writing my own book, I knew I was going to need all the help I could get. So I started a free online writing group because I know that scheduling writing time into my calendar wasn’t always going to cut it.
Little did I know that Write Stuff would become my most favourite time of the week. I thought that writing in silence with people on Zoom would feel awkward, but I love it.
I love the way that it forces me to show up, even if it is only for that one hour a week (because sometimes, that’s all I can manage).
Tickets are free, but sometimes the act of booking that ticket is enough to help us show up.
After all, showing up is what leads us towards publishing our book.
I welcome you to join us; we meet on Zoom every Wednesday evening at 7.30pm AEST and write together, virtually.
Drop in and give it a go. Introduce yourself to me (via the chat function in Zoom if that is more comfortable for you; let me know who you are and how you came to be there. I look forward to seeing you there!
