Welcome to Write & Seek, the podcast exploring the writing practices of debut Australian authors and their journey to publication.
I’m Katherine — founder of Debut Books, publishing coach, budding literary agent, and debut author of The Little Black Book of Publishing (endorsed by Kate Mildenhall).
This podcast was inspired by Charlotte Wood’s words in The Luminous Solution: “While there is information abound these days with advice and exercises on the craft of writing, there is far less available that shines a light on an individual’s actual writing practice.”
That’s what Write & Seek sets out to do.
There is no one way to write and publish a book. Life rarely pauses for book writing — it happens in the midst of everything else.
Write & Seek shines a light on those lived realities, so you can feel seen in your own writing life. Each week, I sit down with a first‑time Australian author to explore:
Their personal writing practice — the rituals, routines, and messy realities of getting words on the page
Their path to publication — the challenges, breakthroughs, and lessons learned along the way
Honest reflections on creativity, authorship, and the industry itself
Why Listen
Intimate: Conversations that feel like sitting across the table.
Relational: Each debut author’s journey is unique, and their stories remind us there is no single way to write or publish a book.
Grounded: Industry insight without jargon or gatekeeping.
Companionable: A steady reminder that writing happens alongside the chaos of our modern lives — and you’re not alone in it.
